Hi, I'm Shai!

I'm a 15 year old, half Japanese/half American, aspiring photographer and filmmaker who currently lives on the small island Tanegashima, in Japan.

Photos

Photography for me is one of the most expressive forms of art. While like a canvas you are just limited to one still frame, I find it very enjoyable to try and put as much emotion within that one frame as necessary using only tools like lighting, environment, and composition.

Here are some of my “best” photos. Or at least best in my opinion.

Nature Urban Black & White

I’ve always found nature beautiful. Whether that beauty is in a sunset, an animal, or just a simple plant. I love taking nature photos. While I love the serenity of nature, I’m also drawn to the hustle and bustle of more urban areas. People, cars and even streets are beautiful things worthy of a photo. Vibrant colors can be an amazing tool for conveying emotions. But sometimes it’s good to strip the colors away and see the raw emotion of a photo.

Films

Now, while I find photography very interesting, my main way of visual storytelling is films. I find films to be one of the most complex forms of art. You are not just limited to one still frame, but you can use movement and sound to convey powerful emotions or stories.

Here are some of my “films”. While they may not all constitute as films, I still find them to be great creative outlets for my feelings and thoughts.

Vlogs Short Films Comedy

I’ve always liked the idea of documenting my life and thoughts. I journal everyday, and I love making films… So I’m trying out a way to combine the two. Out of all mediums of art, films have had the most impact on me. They have moved me emotionally in ways that changed who I am. I’ve always loved laughing, I mean who doesn’t? I try my best to make people laugh… and try not to be annoying while doing so. So I love making short comedy skits.
