Mountain Progress


This page is not a blog. It is merely a page to keep track of our mountain progress in an orderly manner. So if you are curious to see the dates of the trips and in detail what we did, please have a look at this page listing our mountain trips in reverse chronological order.

Trip 90 - 2024/09/29 - 2024/10/01
Day 1:
- Brought all the herbs and loquats up to the mountains from the house.
- We planted all the herbs and loquats in the farm at the mountains.
- We burned the growing pile of weeds and leaves.

Day 2:
- We cut all the Poison Oak trees at A.
- We started to burn the three main stumps.
- I brought what was left of the piles of weeds and leaves up to the burning stumps.
- We raked leaf litter and also cut a bunch of understory trees.

Day 3:
- We cut even more understory trees.
- Dad raked a bunch more leaf litter.
- The Poison Oak stumps were nearly gone by the time we left.
Trip 89 - 2024/09/26 - 2024/09/27
Day 1:
- Brought up almost all the loquat trees in the trailer.
- I put in the eight biggest trees into holes I made the previous trip.
- Dad made a trail from the city trail that led to the trail to one of the points on the mountain.

Day 2:
- Dad cleaned the entire trail up to the mountain point.
- I put in the rest of the loquat trees.
- Dad nearly finished clearing A to be ready to move the buses.
- I put in the Ukon that we also brought up.
Trip 88 - 2024/09/16 - 2024/09/17
Day 1:
- We brought eight large loquat trees to the mountains with the trailer.
- We made the holes and planted them on the hill bordering the farm.
- Dad raked out the potash pile at the farm.
- We brought all the small cypress logs to the homestead.

Day 2:
- I made eight more holes for more loquat trees.
- We moved all the large cypress logs to the homestead.
- Dad raked the rocks from the burn pile onto the road.
Trip 87 - 2024/09/05 - 2024/09/08
Day 1:
- We burned all the farm border logs.
- We moved all the logs bordering the road, off the road.
- We burned the understory trees I cut last trip.
- We cut a bunch of understory trees near the farm.

Day 2:
- Mom got a text from a politician we have been trying to meet up for awhile, that her friend from the UK was visiting this island and that she wanted to meet us.
- Before she came, we cut a few understory trees near the homestead.
- She came around 11 a.m. We talked for a couple of hours. We then went to Urada beach with her. Then at night, she came back along with the politician.

Day 3:
- Dad weed whacked the farm hill, behind the farm, and the road leading up to it.
- I raked up one side of the road and burned the leaves.

Day 4:
- We cut a few trees close to the farm, and all the logs bordering the street.
- We moved the cut logs to a place further down the road.
- Dad cut some cypress logs to bring home.
- We raked out a pit near the farm.
Trip 86 - 2024/08/31 - 2024/09/03
Day 1:
-A box fell off the trailer while driving to the mountains and we couldn't find it.
- Hauled a bunch of wood and cardboard up to the mountains with the trailer.
- We started to burn the piles of weeds from the previous trip.
- We raked out the huge pile of potash at the entry of the mountains.
- We burned all the understory trees I cut awhile ago.

Day 2:
- Dad cut down some dead trees with the chainsaw.
- We started a third burn pile.
- We raked the entire road up to the farm.

Day 3:
- We finished cleaning the mess of trees the chainsaw made.
- We cut more understory trees along the road.

Day 4:
- We finished raking the excess leaves on the road.
- We took the border logs off the farm hill.
- We brought home some herbs from the mountain.
- We cut more understory trees along the road.
- Some city workers came to tell us that we had to report if we were cutting a large area of trees.
Trip 85 - 2024/08/25 - 2024/08/26
Day 1:
- Went to the Nishinomote Gun Festival.

Day 2:
- There were already strong winds from the coming typhoon.
- We cut all the banana tree leaves.
- We pulled a ton of Shiso and weeds out of the ground.
- We ripped all the bitter melon of the deer net.
- We moved all of it to the parking area next to the farm.
- A couple of offshoots from the typhoon poured rain on the mountains.
- We ate lunch in the Hi-Ace.
Trip 84 - 2024/08/20 - 2024/08/23
Day 1:
-Began to really clean the road.
- Made a huge burn pit.
- Cut a large dead tree.

Day 2:
- Dad weed whacked the entry to the mountains.
- Dad weed whacked past the bamboo.
- We raked up most of the mess made from the weed whacker.
- We took out a lot of dead bamboo and burned them.
- We finished raking one side of the road.

Day 3:
- Finished cleaning the entry to the mountains.
- We took out even more dead bamboo.
- We began to rake past the poles.
- I worked alone because of the blisters on Dad's feet.
- I cut a bunch of understory trees.

Day 4:
- Finished taking out all the dead bamboo.
- Cut more understory trees along the road.
- We made the burn pile huge.
Trip 83 - 2024/08/15 - 2024/08/16
Day 1:
- Began raking the entry road into the mountains.
- Raked almost all the way to A.
- Made a bunch of burn piles.

Day 2:
- Finished raking the road from A to the campsite.
- Made more burn piles.
- Went to the beach.
- The waves at Urada were huge.
Trip 82 - 2024/07/16 - 2024/07/19
Day 1:
- Brought the kayaks to the mountains and went kayak fishing for the first time as Urada.
- We practiced flipping the kayaks.
- Dad caught 2 fish.
- Dad caught and released 2 eels.
- For some reason Dad's kayak was filled with water in the hollow inside.

Day 2:
- Did a lot of work on the back of the ridge trail.
- Did work on the other side of the road.
- We ate the fish Dad caught.
- We went kayak fishing again.
- I caught 1 fish.
- Driving home we caught a turtle on the side of the road.

Day 3:
- Did even more work on the back of the ridge trail.
- Did a ton of work on the other side of the road and mage a huge burn pile with all the logs.

Day 4:
- Dad weed whacked the back of the homestead and the other side of the road. While he was weed whacking the other side of the road I raked the area on the homestead that he weed whacked. Dad also weed whacked the kids play area.
- The pile of burned wood was nearly all ash.
Trip 81 - 2024/07/12 - 2024/07/14
Day 1:
- Didn't bring kayaks due to chance of wind and rain.
- Moved all the logs off the ridge trail and then moved almost all the logs to the permanent spot.

Day 2:
- Dad a ton of work on the homestead, by himself, in the pouring rain.
- The rest of us stayed in the bus.
- It rained all day.
- We went shopping.

Day 3:
- Finished the stuff on the back of the ridge trail that was manageable with the chainsaws.
- We went home to day which was a day earlier then planned.
- We did NOT go to the beach at all this trip.
Trip: 80 - 2024/07/06 - 2024/07/06
Day 1:
- Brought a lot of supplies with the trailer.
- Dad started to clean the buses.
- Dad put the black mat in the HiAce and blue bus.
- Did some work on the green net.

Day 2:
- Raked a lot of the campsite and public road.
- Made a burn pile on the public road.
- Dad unloaded the trailer.
- Moved the cypress logs that were near the buses.

Day 3:
- Finished moving the huge logs into place on the ridge trail.
- Dad hung up the laundry lines.
- Mom made 8 sweet potato beds.
- I emptied out the hornet traps.
- I put the black mat in the red bus/my bus.
- Moved the trailer up to the farm and loaded it with pots for the Liquid Amber trees.

Day 4:
- Did more work on the green net and basically finished the perimeter.
- Dad moved a lot of the wood that was still on the ridge trail.
- Mom planted sweet potatoes in the 8 beds she made.
- Replaced the hornet traps with 8 new ones.
- Raised a gypsy flag at the campsite.
